Ibrahimovic jumps to defence of under fire Man Utd boss Mourinho

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has leapt to the defence of Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho stressing he is still the right man for the job whilst admonishing those under him.

The enigmatic 37-year-old Swedish marksman previously worked under Mourinho at Serie A giants Inter Milan before reuniting with him in Manchester in 2016.

He’d leave for MLS outfit LA Galaxy earlier this year, but nonetheless kept tabs on the goings-on at his former club, and with pressure mounting on Mourinho’s shoulders, Ibrahimovic feels a general is only as good as his army.

“I think he has the ability to win [the Premier League]” he told BetHard.

“I think he is the right coach for that club, for that team. But a coach is only as good as his team, so it’s not like he can do miracles if the team is not good enough.

“And I feel the team is good – it’s progressing, becoming better. This is his third year, the players know more and more the way he wants to play and how he wants it – so I believe, yes.”

Mourinho assumed control of United in 2016 following Louis van Gaal’s erratic two years in charge and has, to date, overseen no fewer than 131 matches.

Under him, United have won 79 of those contests – including last weekend’s stunning 3-2 comeback against Newcastle United – giving him a 60% win percentage, while also losing 25 times.

He’s picked up three pieces of silverware to date – the 2016 Community Shield, 2017 League Cup and 2017 Europa League – while seeing his team register 231 goals (1.76 per game) and conceding just 110 (one every 107 minutes).
