Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler says it will be “unbelievable” if Mohamed Salah replicates his first season with the 18-time English champions.
The 26-year-old Egyptian forward enjoyed a productive first season at Anfield following his £37.8m move from Serie A giants AS Roma.
Salah bagged 44 goals across 52 matches, breaking records along the way and collecting individual accolades, but has struggled of late, with Fowler – the club’s sixth-most prolific goalscorer – feeling it was a one-off.
But the former Liverpool man also believes Salah will get back to finding the net on a regular basis soon.
“I’m not saying he’s having a bad year so far. He’s still a good player, he’s still an excellent player but to replicate what he did last year will be unbelievable,” he told Sky Sports News.
“I think he’ll still score goals, I think he’ll still score a lot of goals. What I like about Mo Salah is that his work ethic is brilliant, he doesn’t shy away from anything. What I would be more worried about is if he wasn’t getting chances.
“He will bang the goals in. I’m not sure he’ll hit the heights he did last year but he is still a magnificent player. He will still be a danger throughout the Premier League [season].”
Salah’s wondrous season
Salah featured across 83 matches for Roma, bagging 34 goals and creating a further 24 for his teammates, before relocating to Liverpool ahead of the 2017/18 season.
To say he has made an impact would be stating the obvious. Salah had one of the most prolific seasons of any player in recent English football history.
Ever-present under the leadership of Jurgen Klopp, he registered 44 goals (with 10 of those coming in 13 Champions League games as the Reds reached the 2018 final in Kiev) and 16 assists in 52 outings for Liverpool.
He collected the Premier League’s Golden Boot, having bagged 32 goals in 36 league appearances which saw him break the record for most goals across a 38-match Premier League season, as well as setting a new tally for the most games scored in during a Premier League season (24).
His performances subsequently earned him both the PFA Players’ Player of the Year prize and Football Writer’s Footballer of the Year.
