Former Spurs defender Younes Kaboul labels Mauricio Pochettino as “two faced”

Former Tottenham defender Younes Kaboul has accused “two faced” Mauricio Pochettino of going behind his back during the pair’s time together in north London.

Kaboul made 140 appearances across two spells at Spurs that were broken up by a short stay with Portsmouth, from whom he returned to White Hart Lane in 2010.

When Pochettino arrived as manager in 2014, Kaboul retained the captaincy but soon found himself out of the new coach’s first-team plans.

The Frenchman eventually joined Sunderland in the summer of 2015 having made only 15 appearances across all competitions – all of which came at the beginning of the campaign – in his final season with Tottenham.

Now playing for Watford, Kaboul gave an interview to France Football in which he was asked to speak about his favourite managers.

“The one where things didn’t go well was Pochettino,” Kaboul said, as translated by Sport Witness. “On the field, nothing to say, very good manager, with a philosophy and a style of play that works.

“Personally, it’s the opposite. He’s two faced. He would say things to you and did the complete opposite behind your back. I didn’t like that, and I told him. That’s all.”

After leaving Spurs, Kaboul played 24 times for Sunderland before joining Watford in August 2016. Since then he has made 27 appearances for the Hornets.

The 32-year-old played just twice last season because of injuries.

Tottenham face Fulham at Wembley in the Premier League this weekend, while Watford travel to Burnley.
