Ex-Man Utd and Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov picks out the Premier League’s three most likely Golden Boot winners

Former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov has backed Harry Kane to reclaim the Premier League Golden Boot this season.

The 37-year-old Bulgarian striker, who was a Golden Boot winner himself back in the 2010/2011 season, feels that Kane’s ‘tremendous’ World Cup campaign this summer will bring him into this season with even more confidence, but has also named who he thinks will be his closest rivals.

He told Betfair: “I think the top Premier League goalscorer will be Harry Kane. It’s a tough call, there’s also [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang – because he had a solid first season in the league and will want to build that in his second season with a new coach. There’s Romelu Lukaku who performed well at the World Cup.

“Out of those three, I would have to say, Kane. He had a tremendous World Cup campaign, will have even more confidence in himself and these aspects help a striker.”

Berbatov also backed his old club, Manchester United, to win a first Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season in charge in 2013, while suggesting that Jose Mourinho’s experience handling big egos in the dressing room gives him the edge over other Premier League managers.

Berbatov’s three Golden Boot contenders

Harry Kane is Dimitar Berbatov’s favourite for Premier League top scorer this season – and with good reason.

The 25-year-old already has two Premier League Golden Boots to his name, as well as one at the World Cup this summer, and has scored 140 goals in 213 games for Tottenham so far.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the newest out of Berbatov’s picks to the Premier League but has already scored 10 goals in just 14 Arsenal appearances since coming to England in January. The Gabonese striker also scored 141 goals in his 213 game spell at Borussia Dortmund.

Romelu Lukaku was Kane’s closest challenger two seasons ago when he was at Everton and the Manchester United striker has 101 goals in 220 Premier League appearances to date.
