Man City issue statement amid fears Kevin De Bruyne could miss months through injury

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has suffered a serious knee injury which may rule him out of action for at least two months.

The Belgium international picked up the injury in a City training session and although the extent of the damage is unknown, reports suggest that the injury is a nasty one and that the midfielder will be ruled out of playing football for approximately two months.

This knee injury is reportedly similar to the injury he picked up back in 2016 against Everton which ruled him out of action for a similar amount of time that is being reported today.

Manchester City are attempting to defend their Premier League title and improve their fortunes in Europe but may have to do so with De Bruyne until at least October.

De Bruyne enjoyed a successful summer with Belgium at the World Cup in Russia, with his country managing to finish third after losing out to eventual winners France in the semi-finals.

Prior to the World Cup, the former Chelsea man enjoyed a fantastic season as he established himself as a vital cog in Pep Guardiola’s side as they ran away with the Premier League title, won the Carabao Cup and reached the quarterfinals of the Uefa Champions League.

For De Bruyne himself, he won a whole host of personal awards after his consistently impressive performances for the Citizens, including; ‘Premier League Playmaker of the Season’, ‘Manchester City Player of the Year’, a place in the ‘PFA Team of the Year’, ‘Uefa Champions League Squad of the Season’ and the ‘Fifa World Cup Dream Team’.

Manchester City fans react

Naturally, City fans are not happy with the loss of one of their man stars.

Even some opposition fans are disappointed by the news.
