“Napoli have their own Ronaldo… and Cristiano could struggle”

United Arab Emirates manager Alberto Zaccheroni, who spent much of his management career in Italy, believes Napoli have their very own Cristiano Ronaldo already, but it’s not who you might think.

Many are tipping Ronaldo to take Serie A by storm, but Zaccheroni has backed Napoli to have a successful season and believes the former Manchester United and Real Madrid superstar may experience some teething problems in the first few months of his time at Juventus.

Napoli have had a tough pre-season and many fans have been left disappointed by club president Aurelio De Laurentiis’ reluctance to invest significant money in the playing squad this summer.

However, Zaccheroni says Napoli’s new manager Carlo Ancelotti can be Napoli’s very own Cristiano Ronaldo. He told Il Mattino: “Napoli have their own Ronaldo: Carlo Ancelotti.

“I was sure that Carlo would choose the Premier League, but instead he chose the project offered to him by De Laurentiis.

“Ronaldo? It’s not a given that he’ll score so much in Italy. I remember even [Michel] Platini suffered a lot during his first year in Italy.

“The Portuguese will certainly experience some difficulties at the beginning.”

How is Ronaldo settling in at Juve?

The Portuguese star scored eight minutes into his Juventus debut on Sunday and is set to take part in the Bianconeri’s season opener against Chievo this weekend.

His arrival has seen striker Gonzalo Higuain leave the club after the Argentine striker joined AC Milan in a loan deal which also saw Mattia Caldara move to the San Siro, with Leonardo Bonucci returning to Juventus.

Paulo Dybala is Ronaldo’s most likely strike partner for the new season, whilst Massimiliano Allegri’s side have also strengthened their squad with the additions of Douglas Costa, Mattia Perin, Emre Can and João Cancelo this summer.
