Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed that the club have rejected a “big offer” for Marko Rog, but implied he is open to renegotiating if the offer improves.
De Laurentiis is one of the more eccentric football owners who’s never been shy to express exactly what’s on his mind.
Over the summer the Napoli owner has emerged as a Trumpian like figure, routinely taking aim at his former head coach Maurizio Sarri for the way he left the club at the end of last season.
Now the Bellicose president takes a seat on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli on a daily basis to address what he describes as “fake news” about the club in a ‘True or False’ segment.
On Monday the Napoli boss revealed that his club had received a big offer for midfielder Marko Rog, which they rejected.
“Did we reject an offer for Marko Rog? True, but never say never,” he said (via Football Italia).
“A big offer has arrived that could be improved. For me the lad is locked down, but in football, you never know.
“Davide Grassi to Spain? I can’t say true or false. We’re looking, and other European teams have approached.
“Did I consider bringing Gonzalo Higuain back? Very false, because Gonzalo himself would never have accepted it.”
De Laurentiis also revealed on the segment that the Partenopei are still interested in Matteo Darmian, but completing the move depends on Jose Mourinho.
The outspoken owner also dismissed that Cristiano Ronaldo heading to Juventus means the Scudetto is over. “False! Napoli will give them a hard time, and Inter have reinforced too.”
