Former Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam has waxed lyrical about the club’s new gloveman Alisson, believing the Brazilian shot-stopper will save the club valuable points this season.
Liverpool’s new man between the sticks completed a sensational £67m switch to Anfield from Roma this summer, making the 25-year-old the most expensive goalkeeper ever.
A graduate of Internacional’s esteemed academy, Alisson relocated to the Italian capital in 2016 but only broke into the Giallorossi first-team last season.
But Jurgen Klopp was convinced by his exploits and` it is not just the German tactician who believes Alisson merited the bumper price paid for his services, as former Reds midfielder Adam insists the ‘keeper will be invaluable for the club this season.
“The goalkeeper situation was a big problem for them last season. He has seen that problem and got that deal done,” he said (via the Liverpool Echo).
“[Alisson] is going to be worth six to eight points over the season. It adds a total belief and confidence.”
The Stoke City midfielder went on to laud the Merseyside club’s transfer activity, but he believes Liverpool are still a couple of additional signings away from winning the Premier League.
He added: “Liverpool are one or two players from the title. He [Klopp] has added quality to the squad, I still think they could do with another centre-half.
“They have brought Shaqiri in, a good replacement if Mohamed Salah needs a rest. Daniel Sturridge is to come back in – if he stays fit he could be in that team as well.”
Alisson’s first day in training
After helping Brazil reach the World Cup quarter-finals this summer, Alisson returned to pre-season action after enjoying a prolonged rest, and he was able to take part in his first Liverpool training session yesterday afternoon.
