Seven stats that prove Levante 2-6 Sevilla was FIFA in real life

Sevilla‘s dismantling of Levante looked more like a game of FIFA than a competitive match in Spain’s top flight.

Wissam Ben Yedder took five shots on goal and bagged a hat-trick in Sevilla’s six-goal rout of Levante, while Pablo Sarabia claimed a hat-trick of assists on Sunday. Sevilla’s victory takes them to sixth place in La Liga.

Here are seven stats that prove the game was FIFA in real life.

1. This game had shots galore

The peppering that both goals underwent during the game resembled the kind of stats racked up at the end of a game of FIFA. Both teams had brought their shooting boots with them on Sunday as they managed 39 shots between them, with 19 of those on target.

Levante were perhaps unlucky to have not matched Sevilla’s goal tally as they had 10 shots on target during this game, one more than the away side.

2. Pablo Sarabia and Ben Yedder both were involved in four goals

While the headlines will rightly celebrate Ben Yedder’s first-half hat-trick, Sarabia’s contribution to this game should not be overlooked.

The Spanish midfielder created three goals for his team mates in this clash and even managed to bag one himself. That’s very rare indeed, even in FIFA.

3. 13 out of the 20 outfield players created a chance

In reality professional footballers have to adhere to a heavily prescribed system devised by their managers and coaches. They know their role and they generally stick to it. In FIFA, gamers have the free will to command their players in whichever direction they like; the more frivolous players will even have a punt at goal with their ‘keeper.

In Sunday’s game it was as if Sevilla and Levante were being manipulated by the erratic button mashing of an impatient teenager, as it seemed like every player was getting in on the action. As well as the 13 outfield players who created chances for their team mates, 15 had a shot on goal.

4. Sevilla score six goals on the road for the first time

Away matches are meaningless in FIFA terms. You’re always playing from home, and does anyone really play the game with the sound on anymore? Those simulated jeers from the away fans can’t bother you if you’re listening to your favourite podcast in the background (This week’s Squawka Talker is available below!).

Again, the concept of an advantage was lost on The Ones from Hispalis, who bagged six goals away from home for the first time in history (perhaps more evidence of someone else in control?).

5. Three players complete 100% of their passes

Having a player complete 100% of their passes is even a difficult task on FIFA unless you’re talking about the AI on legendary mode.

However, three of Levante’s players completed this highly rare feat on Sunday. Although, as is repeatedly pointed out by pundits and commentators throughout the world: it’s not how many passes you make or how many of them you complete, but what you do with them that counts.

6. Emmanuel Boateng had as many shots as passes…

…but failed to hit the target with either of them after coming on in the 60th minute. His efforts were indicative of Levante’s afternoon which ended with them wasting 16 attempts on goal.

7. Sevilla won’t be winning any awards for fair play

FIFA players will have their own depressing stories about how they had to endure the most horrific challenges without their opponents being reprimanded by the referee.

Usually when committing multiple fouls over a game in the real world, a team will leave the field after 90 minutes with a few of their players’ names jotted down in the ref’s notebook. However, Sergio Postigo was the only Sevilla player to be carded during a game in which his side committed 18 fouls.
