Man Utd making trouble? Leicester boss Claude Puel reacts to Harry Maguire rumours

Leicester City manager Claude Puel has laughed off rumours linking talented defender Harry Maguire with a move to Manchester United.

Maguire has just finished off a fantastic first season at the Foxes as his consistent performances helped the club finish eighth in the Premier League last campaign.

He followed that up with an even more impressive summer’s performance in Russia with England as Gareth Southgate’s men surprised many by reaching the semi-finals of the World Cup.

Maguire – who scored against Sweden in the quarter-finals – emerged as one of England’s key players and his performances have naturally grabbed the attention of other clubs, including Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.

Leicester boss Puel has, however, laughed off links between Maguire and the Old Trafford club, insisting that it would be foolish to get rid of him with just days until the start of the season.

He also hinted that maybe there were underlying tactics regarding the rumours from the United camp as the two sides are set to play each other in the first match of the season next week.

Speaking to reporters (via FourFourTwo) Puel said: “I think perhaps United wanted to make trouble before our game!

“It’s not the thing to try to make trouble but I think he’s a better player for us.

“It’s our intent to keep him and just a few days before the start of the season it would not be a good thing for the squad, for confidence and for the club [to lose him].”

Leicester travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United next Friday evening, in the first game of the new Premier League season.
