Barcelona won’t sign Paul Pogba from Man Utd, says Wes Brown

Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown says he’s certain that Barcelona will not be signing Paul Pogba this summer.

The Catalan giants are said to be planning a long-term pursuit of the French midfielder, who played a vital part in France’s World Cup glory in Russia this summer.

Pogba fuelled the exit talk by hinting that all was not well behind the scenes following United’s 2-1 victory against Leicester City on Friday night.

But Brown says he’s sure that Pogba will be staying put and claims that United would not consider letting a player of Pogba’s quality leave. He told the Daily Star: “He’s a Manchester United player. He was captain on Friday, scored a penalty, had a great World Cup and I’m hoping that he just keeps that going and has a fantastic season for United.

“Maybe he’ll be given a bit more freedom this season, especially with Fred there now and still Matic to come in.

“Fred looks like to get around the pitch, it looks like he likes defending so that may mean Pogba can advance a little bit.

“We’ll just have to see, it’s a bit early at the moment to see how that plays or whether he does become more attacking or if he’s more defensive.”

Is Pogba angling for a United exit?

Pogba’s post-Leicester comments were a surprise to many. This is the first time he’s showed signs of being unhappy at Manchester United.

In Mino Raiola, the midfielder does have one of the most influential agents in the game. Reports suggest that Barcelona will do whatever it takes to get their man and it may be that Raiola wants to see United pull out all the stops to ensure Pogba remains a United player.

But, with Mourinho said to be unhappy at the boards’ reluctance to back him in the transfer market this summer, it seems all is not well at Old Trafford.

If the unrest continues, it’s certain to be an intriguing season for all involved at Manchester United.
