Daley Blind reveals “It was nice working with Mourinho” during Man Utd spell

Daley Blind has revealed he enjoyed working under Jose Mourinho during his time at Manchester United.

Blind left United in the summer to return to his former club Ajax in the Eredivisie after spending four years at Old Trafford, appearing 141 times and scoring six goals.

Blind only appeared seven times in the Premier League last season and Mourinho decided to release the defender in a transfer worth £14.1 million.

However, despite his lack of game time and unceremonious departure, the Dutchman seems to bear no ill will for his former boss.

“I’ve almost played 150 games and won four trophies with them,” Blind said after a 3-0 victory (via ESPN) over Standard Liege in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.

“I’ve really had a great time with lots of beautiful moments. I am very thankful for the fans there that was great. I am very thankful to Mourinho. It was nice working with him.”

“I learned a lot [from Mourinho],” Blind added. “He is a true winner and he is the best in transferring that to the group.”

Mourinho could live to regret releasing Blind, as he landed none of his transfer targets in the summer which were squarely focused on strengthening his central defence.

Despite conceding the second fewest goals behind Manchester City in the Premier League, Mourinho’s back line was unsettled last season, undergoing 11 different centre-back partnerships.

In United’s first game in the new Premier League season against Leicester City last Friday, Mourinho started the game with Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly in central defence.

It remains to be seen if that partnership will survive into this Sunday’s game against Brighton & Hove Albion, and how many permutations his central defence will go through this campaign.
