Pep Guardiola’s biggest aim is to dislodge Man Utd as most successful club in England

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed he aspires to knock Manchester United off their pedestal as England’s most successful team.

The City manager spoke about his plans for the club in ‘All Or Nothing: Manchester City’, a fly-on-the-wall documentary released by Amazon on Friday.

Guardiola spoke at length about his footballing philosophy and revealed his desire to usurp the supremacy that his local rivals have enjoyed over the years.

The Spaniard said (via the Mirror): “I am going to tell you something that is absolutely true: I don’t have all the answers. Often, when I don’t know something, I act in front of the players as if I do.

“I do it so they believe I have the right answers and it gives them confidence to play.”

He added: “We have neighbours who, for 15 or 20 years, have always won. I think my biggest challenge as a manager is to change that.”

City finished last season with 100 on the board and broke a plethora of other Premier League records in an unprecedented campaign. Now the Spaniard has his eyes on making City the most successful club in England, ending United’s dominance in the Premier League.

One could argue that Man Utd’s dominance is already over. Since Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down from managing the club the Red Devils have been unable to re-capture the Premier League title. In fact, they haven’t even come close.

Under David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and current incumbent Jose Mourinho, United have also discarded the attacking style that brought them so much success over the years much to the chagrin of fans and commentators who have witnessed the club decline rapidly from one of the most entertaining clubs to watch, to one of the most painful to watch.

City still have their work cut out for them if they hope to replace their rivals as England’s most successful club. Twenty league titles rest in United’s trophy cabinet at Old Trafford, along with three European Cups. City have only won the league five times and their only trophy in Europe was the 1969/70 European Cup Winners Cup.

However, if City continue to play at the level they reached last season they will undoubtedly become the most dominant side in English football, perhaps the most dominant ever.

Man City host Huddersfield in the Premier League on Sunday.
