Sergio Ramos continues Klopp feud with biggest dig yet

Three months on from Real Madrid‘s Champions League final win over Liverpool, Los Blancos defender Sergio Ramos has once again taken aim at Jurgen Klopp.

The pair have been publicly at each other’s throats after Klopp accused Ramos of intentionally injuring Mohamed Salah in the final back in May.

And, ahead of Real’s UEFA Super Cup clash with Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, Ramos decided to open fire on Klopp’s losing record in cup finals.

He told reporters (via the Liverpool Echo): “It’s not the first final he’s lost, (maybe) he wants to use that as an excuse for losing.

“Some of us have been operating at a very high level for many years, not sure he can say the same.

“Klopp’s words? There have been many repercussions after what happened to Salah in the Champions League final. Let Klopp worry about his own players.”

It all started in the first half of the Champions League final in May when Salah was pulled down under a challenge from Ramos.

That challenge injured the Egyptian international’s shoulder, forcing him to be substituted while in tears, with many pundits and Liverpool fans claiming that Ramos intentionally injured Salah.

As the social media tidal wave against Ramos gained pace, Jurgen Klopp finally broke his silence on the incident in July by comparing the Real Madrid man to a wrestler, saying his challenge was “ruthless and brutal”.

Accusations were also levelled at Ramos that he intentionally elbowed goalkeeper Loris Karius – the subsequent concussion the German suffered was thought to be the cause of the erratic goalkeeping that cost Liverpool two goals in the final.

Ramos then laughed off these accusations, saying that Liverpool were making “too much of a big deal” out of the incident.

The bad loser

As the war of words continued over the summer, Jurgen Klopp then accused Ramos of having a ‘win at all costs’ attitude, and that he would “rather be a bad loser” than share the Spaniard’s mentality.

The Liverpool manager also admitted that the Liverpool squad had talked about Ramos’ antics in their preparations for the game after his dive got Juan Cuadrado sent off in the previous year’s final against Juventus.

The final blow

After a public and distasteful exchange between the pair over the summer, Ramos appears to have dealt the final blow to Klopp with his latest comments.

Whether Klopp yet again chooses to respond remains to be seen.
