Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on France manager Didier Deschamps after he lead Les Bleus to World Cup glory in Russia this summer.
Prior to the World Cup, Deschamps had been subject to some criticism from fans in France, who felt that the countries’ exciting, young group of players were not being utilised correctly. But Deschamps guided his side all the way and made France incredibly difficult to beat from start to finish.
Klopp, whose Liverpool team are known for their exciting, full-throttle style of play, believes Deschamps got his tactics spot on in Russia.
In an interview with France Football, Klopp said: “France had the right players and the right tactics.
“Didier Deschamps could have done something else with this team. Let them play, run, excite the whole planet to show how beautiful French football was.
“But he showed great maturity. He calmed and disciplined everyone, even making the games sometimes a bit boring.
“The job of a coach is to use the qualities of his team in the best way.”
Getting the best out of France’s star players
Several of France’s players were integral in getting Deschamps’ side over the line in this summer’s tournament.
Paul Pogba, who many believe is underperforming for Manchester United, was hugely influential in a more-disciplined role alongside N’Golo Kante.
Kylian Mbappe proved why many believe he can go on to become the best player on the planet with some scintillating performances which lead to him being named the best young player at the tournament.
It’s no surprise to see some of Europe’s top managers now giving Deschamps the credit he deserves.
