Delph jokes wonderful Bernardo Silva is one of the worst players in the team

Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph has joked that Bernardo Silva is “one of the worst players in the team’ following the champions” 3-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday.

The former Monaco man pulled the strings at the Etihad on Saturday and was awarded Man of the Match.

Silva faces competition for a place in City’s side from the likes of David Silva, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane but Pep Guardiola will have been impressed by the Portugal midfielder’s performances so far this season.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Delph, who was used at left-back against Fulham, was full of praise for Bernardo Silva.

“Bernardo Silva? Ah, he’s average. One of the worst players in the team…” Delph said with a smile, according to the Daily Mail.

“Nah, he’s a team player, a wonderful guy, everyone loves him. He looks about 45 but he’s only about 20 or something.

“He’ll keep improving, there are many more good games to come from him.”

Should Bernardo be a guaranteed starter in absence of KDB?

Kevin De Bruyne is yet to feature for City since picking up a knee injury in August, with the Belgian hoping to return in November.

City are unbeaten in his absence but dropped points against Wolves in a 1-1 draw at Molineux towards the end of August.

The attacking options at Guardiola’s disposal means that City have not been short of quality in De Bruyne’s absence, but Bernardo’s performance in the centre of midfield on Saturday proved just how effective he can be in the middle of the park.

Both he and David Silva created plenty of chances for Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane and Sergio Aguero in attack and a central role in midfield brings out plenty of Bernardo’s best attributes.

Guardiola’s side face Lyon in their Champions League opener at the Etihad on Wednesday.
