Mohamed Salah admits he’s played with Liverpool on FIFA since 2005

Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah has paid homage to his current club by confessing that the Reds have been his go-to team on FIFA since 2005.

Salah, 26, has only been a Liverpool player for just over a year, but his affiliation with the club goes back to his adolescence, with the forward revealing he used to play with the Anfield club on FIFA throughout his teenage years.

The Egyptian ace deployed some questionable tactics, notably utilising Steven Gerrard up front because of his shooting ability, but either way Salah would have had an array of talent at his disposal, such was the quality of that Champions League winning side 13 years ago.

And it was that night in Istanbul that gave Salah inspiration to use his current employers on FIFA.

Speaking to France Football (via the Mirror), the Golden Boot winner said: “It was special to me even though I was very young. When I played FIFA, I always chose Liverpool in 2005.

“I always used to put Steven Gerrard up front because he had a massive shot.

“Then I had Jerzy Dudek in goal and of course Jamie Carragher and Sami Hyypia in defence. But I also played with Liverpool before 2005 on my console.”

Salah will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of his childhood idols by clinching European glory with Liverpool, and the club would have achieved that feat last season were it not for a Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.

The former Roma winger was famously taken off during the first-half of the final after injuring his shoulder in a collision with Sergio Ramos, but he will be eager to bounce back and take the Reds one step further this campaign.

Liverpool lock horns with European heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield on Tuesday night in the first match of Group C.

One Night in Istanbul

Often considered one of the greatest finals in Champions League history, Liverpool famously came from three goals down to triumph over Italian giants A.C. Milan in the 2005 UEFA Champions League Final.

Rafael Benitez’s men found themselves 3-0 down at the midway stage, but a second-half resurgence, led by captain Steven Gerrard, saw the Merseyside club achieve the unthinkable and peg Carlo Ancelotti’s side back.

Extra-time failed to separate the sides, and Liverpool clinched victory in a penalty shoot-out after converting three of their spot-kicks and some Jerzy Dudek heroics between the sticks.
