Gianluigi Buffon believes Cristiano Ronaldo will bring success to his former club Juventus and if he doesn’t they will be close.
Ronaldo sensationally moved from Real Madrid to La Vecchia Signora in a deal reportedly worth £88.3m.
He will, however, not be lining up alongside Buffon who ended a 17-year association with the Italian powerhouse this summer by joining Paris Saint-Germain that being said he’s hoping their mega signing brings his Los Blancos form as it would hold Juve in good stead.
“I hope Ronaldo can give what he’s given for all the teams he played in,” he told Sky Sports Italia (via Football Italia).
“Certainly he won’t give Juventus the sorrows he’s given us in recent years… Juventus can’t spring any surprises: they have a skilled board and President, plus their history, team and fans are so great that if it they don’t win, they go close.”
A deadly alliance
Juventus go into the 2018/19 season having won the previous seven Italian championships. They are unquestionably first among equals in Serie A with their supremacy looking as strong as ever.
Ronaldo’s arrival will no doubt boost the league’s viewership figures, akin to the numbers reached two decades ago, however, it spells trouble for Juve’s rivals at home (who are looking to topple them) and in the Champions League.
Despite turning 33 earlier this year, Ronaldo is not missing a beat, even going as far to suggest he’s got the body of a player ten years his junior. He leaves Real as the club’s all-time top scorer having registered 450 goals across 438 games lifting four European Cups (including the last three on the bounce) and two La Liga crowns in the process.
Ronaldo is expected to make his official Juve debut in their Serie A opener at Chievo on August 18.
