FIFA 19’s first five new gameplay features explained

EA Sports have provided details about five new gameplay features ahead of FIFA 19’s September release.

Gamers have five new features to look forward to, as they wait to get their hands on the latest instalment of the FIFA game franchise.

With every instalment of FIFA, EA looks to update their game mechanics to provide the most realistic experience for The Beautiful Game yet.

Squawka has taken a look at the five features players will be able to use as they go head-to-head with friends, enemies and everyone in between this September.

1. Real player motion technology

EA has updated their animation system to change the perennially stony expressions the animated players seem to wear and they will have more personality “and increased fidelity in movement”, too.

Gamers can expect enhanced animations for tactical shielding, impact balancing and physical jostles which according to EA will “bring realistic player movement, responsiveness and personality to new heights.”

2. Timed  finishing

There’s nothing worse than being in front of goal, directing your player to aim his/her shot towards top bins, only for the AI to inexplicably decide to hit it straight at the oncoming goalkeeper.

Well, EA reckons they’ve solved this particular niggle, too: “Whether it’s a hit from outside the box, a precision header, or a deft touch, timed finishing adds a new layer of control to your chances in front of goal.”

We’ll believe it when we see it.

3. Dynamic tactics

Players have always been able to customise their approach to games before the match and make adjustments to tactics in real time with the D-pad during a game.

FIFA 19’s new tactical feature boasts a re-imagined system that allows for multiple tactical approaches that can be crafted in great detail pre-match, and more options for player during games. “Each tactical approach combines formations, mentalities, and both attacking and defensive play styles, enabling you to easily customize your play to any situation.”

4. 50/50 battles

Hopefully, this feature will cut down on some of the online bickering (we doubt it) when players insist they only lost because the game’s AI allowed your opponent to win every 50/50 duel.

EA claims that user reactions and player attributes will now decide who wins those pesky loose balls throughout the pitch. “With increased teammate intelligence and spatial awareness, every challenge matters in the fight for possession.”

5. Active touch system

Players who like to add a bit of flair to their attacking play will be delighted with the new and improved active touch feature, which EA claims will offer players more creative and personalised ways to beat your opponent.

EA says the new feature will change the way you receive and strike the ball and will provide you with greater control especially during those all-important take-ons: “Utilize a suite of new first touch tools, like the disguised trap, flick-up volleys, or even skill-specific animations, like the Neymar Trap, to beat your opponent and create scoring opportunities.”
