Kevin Mirallas joins Fiorentina a day after being handed Everton’s No.8 shirt

Everton forward Kevin Mirallas is set to join Fiorentina on a season-long loan.

The 30-year-old Belgian relocates to Serie A a day after being handed The Toffees number 8 jersey.

Mirallas, who initially signed for Everton in 2012 and sees his present deal expire in two years time, spent the backend of last season at Greek giants Olympiacos.

Despite a promising start to life at Goodison Park, he’s fallen out of favour under the club’s last three managers.

To date he’s featured in no fewer than 186 matches for the Merseyside club, the bulk of those appearances (102) coming under Roberto Martinez now his national team boss, in the process, he’s registered 38 goals and created a further 35 for his teammates.

“Gutted”

In three days, Mirallas has been outcast by the club, given a shiny new squad number, and shipped out on loan.

After being told to train away from the first team, Mirallas featured in the club’s announcement of the squad numbers for the 2018/19 season on Friday and, to the bemusement of Everton fans everywhere, was handed the No.8 shirt.

The announcement of Mirallas’ pending loan deal was therefore met with humour by most Everton fans, mocking the club by claiming they had just purchased Mirallas’ new No.8 shirt and were ‘gutted’ to find out he was leaving.

Other fans were slightly more ruthless…

The Belgian joins a Fiorentina side who finished eighth in Serie A last season meaning Viola missed out on European football.

Stefano Pioli’s men begin their league campaign away to Sampdoria on August 19.
