Man City have already found David Silva’s replacement, says Rio Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand thinks that Bernardo Silva is the man to take over David Silva’s creative duties for Manchester City when the Spaniard eventually leaves the Etihad.

Bernardo Silva joined City from Monaco last summer for a reported £43.5m but, despite making 53 appearances during his first season at the club, many of those were from the bench. He was, in fact, substituted on 20 times in the Premier League last season, more than any other City player.

However, the Portuguese international still managed six goals and four assists and, speaking on BT Sport ahead of Man City’s Community Shield clash with Chelsea, Ferdinand said: “I remember seeing him at the Etihad for Monaco against City, this guy is a fantastic footballer.

“I see him as the eventual successor to [David] Silva at Man City.”

If Bernardo is to fill the eventual space to be left by David Silva, he will have to be at his very best to replicate the immense standards set by the 125-cap Spanish international.

Since joining the club from Valencia in 2010, David Silva has made 346 appearances for City, scoring 61 goals and assisting another 84 in all competitions.

The 32-year-old has also won a host of silverware at the Etihad, helping the Citizens win three Premier League titles, three League Cups and an FA Cup.
