Michy Batshuayi hits back at Sevilla president after joining Valencia

Chelsea loanee Michy Batshuayi hit back at Sevilla president Pepe Castro after he claimed the player would play only four Champions League games while on loan with Valencia.

The Belgium forward is set to be loaned out again this season after Maurizio Sarri revealed that the player would only play a bit part role if he were to stay at Chelsea this season.

Batshuayi almost signed for Sevilla in the January transfer window and his latest move appears to have irked President Castro who was reported by Deportes Cuatro as suggesting that the Chelsea man has opted to play just “four Champions League games” at Valencia rather than have more opportunities to play in the Europa League with Sevilla.

Speaking at his unveiling, the Belgian laid out his reasons for joining the club and outlined that his ambitions were more than what was being suggested by Castro. He was also quick to point to the influence of head coach Marcelino.

“There were plenty of clubs who wanted to sign me but after talking to Marcelino, a bond was generated and he convinced me to sign,’ Batshuayi said (via Valencia’s official website).

‘This is a strong team who play in the Champions League and fight against the best, but what convinced me most was my conversation with the coach.

“I’ve come here to play for a Valencia side who want to play more than four games in the Champions League. My wish is to win a title with Valencia this season.”

The Chelsea forward will be hoping he can recapture the form that impressed many while on loan at Dortmund last term where the player scored nine times in just 14 appearances leading to clubs like Sevilla chasing his signature.

Valencia start their La Liga campaign against Atletico Madrid on August 20 and will be hoping to start with a win.
