Alan Shearer: He is the best foreign player in Premier League history | Squawka Football

Alan Shearer has labelled Sergio Aguero the “best foreign player to play in the Premier League”, putting the Argentinian ahead of the likes of Eric Cantona and Thierry Henry.

Henry is often seen as being perhaps the greatest player of the Premier League era, let along foreign player. The Frenchman scored 228 in 376 games while with Arsenal, and for a stretch between 2001 and 2006 was the undisputed face of the league, scoring 24+ league goals each season.

But Shearer clearly has other ideas and has instead given the nod to Aguero, who signed for Man City in 2011 and has gone on to hit 204 goals in 294 matches for Man City.

Aguero has so far struck three goals in two games for City in the league and has looked exceptionally sharp for a player that featured in the World Cup.

After Cit’s 6-1 mauling of Huddersfield, a game in which Aguero scored three, Shearer wrote in his team of the week on the Premier League official website:  “He was deadly again. Now on nine Premier League hat-tricks and only two behind me 😳. The best foreign player to play in the Premier League. A great centre-forward with no weaknesses.”

Man City next take on Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday away.
