Jurgen Klopp: Nobody has told me anything about him leaving | Squawka Football

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed he knew nothing about an offer from Turkish side Besiktas to loan ‘keeper Loris Karius.

Reports suggest that the Liverpool stopper is headed out the door on a two-year loan deal with the Turkish giants after the player was not included in the Reds squad that travelled to Crystal Palace on the weekend.

The German goalkeeper has endured a difficult summer following his two calamitous errors in the Champions League final that saw Liverpool lose 3-1 to Real Madrid.

The 25-year-old was in tears after the game and has been under a lot of press scrutiny ever since. Liverpool signed Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson this summer from Roma for a fee thought to be in the region of £66m and it is clear that Karius is not seen as a viable number one on Merseyside.

However, the move to Besiktas that appears to be close to completion has, as reported by Goal, come as a complete surprise to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

When asked about the impending exit of the German keeper during the post-match press conference at Selhurst Park the Reds boss simply replied:

“Nothing to say,” Klopp told reporters. “Nobody told me anything on a transfer.”

Simon Mignolet was on the bench for Liverpool at the weekend and it appears likely that Karius’ time with the club is coming to an end.

Talks are said to be at an advanced stage for Karius to make an exit to Besiktas and the Reds will recoup £2.25m over the two year loan period, with a further £7.25m due if he hits certain performance criteria during his spell on the banks of the Bosphorus.

Should these targets be hit, Karius’ move will automatically become permanent. It is believed that the criteria outlined in the deal are based on the ‘keeper making a certain number of appearances and on Besiktas qualifying for Europe.

Should Karius return to Anfield he would sign a one-year extension and has an option to extend further to 2022.

Karius has made 49 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool at the time of writing, including 19 in the Premier League last season.

Besiktas’ search for a new stopper began when they lost Fabri to Fulham and saw Liverpool’s other goalkeeper, Simon Mignolet, outright reject and approach from the Turkish club.

Liverpool have made a perfect start to the new campaign and face Brighton at home on August 25.
