Arsenal defender Ainsley Maitland-Niles has officially been ruled out of action for up to eight weeks after suffering a leg break against Manchester City at the weekend.
Maitland-Niles limped off the pitch in the first-half of Arsenal’s 2-0 Premier League opening day defeat to the reigning champions and now doctors have confirmed that he has suffered from a minor leg break.
The injury will rule the talented youngster out of contention until October with Arsenal continuing to adapt to life under new manager Unai Emery.
Arsenal released a statement on the club’s official website from medical staff reports stating: “Ainsley has sustained a small fracture to his left fibula and will be out for six to eight weeks.”
The Gunners are currently dealing with a number of defensive casualties this season, with Maitland-Niles joining various teammates on the treatment table.
Sead Kolasinac and Laurent Koscielny have been long-term absentees and are expected to make a return to full fitness around October and November respectively.
Want-away full-back Carl Jenkinson is also currently absent due to injury after picking up “a significant sprain to his right ankle”.
Arsenal’s next Premier League fixtures is against Chelsea this weekend.
