Samuel Eto’o pens deal with Qatar Sports Club following Konyaspor exit

Former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto’o has further extended his career by signing a deal with Qatari-top-flight club Qatar Sports Club.

Eto’o, 37, is to be presented as a Qatar Sports Club player at a press conference on Tuesday, after leaving Turkish side Konyaspor by mutual consent.

The Cameroonian’s former teammates Xavi and Wesley Sneijder are also both playing their football in the Qatari league as the country prepares to host the 2022 World Cup.

Eto’o had previously suggested that his next team may be based in France, but has decided to make Qatar Sports Club the 13th club of his career.

Eto’o’s career to date

Having spent the early stages of his career at Real Madrid, Eto’o made a real name for himself in Spain after spells with RCD Mallorca and, of course, Barcelona, where he managed an impressive 130 goals in 199 appearances across all competitions.

In July 2009, Eto’o was part of a high-profile swap deal that saw him move to Inter Milan, with Swedish forward Zlatan Ibrahimović heading to Barcelona.

He spent two years with Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala before trying his luck in the Premier League with Chelsea and then Everton.

During his time in the Premier League, he scored a hat-trick for Chelsea in a 3-1 win vs. Man Utd. No player has managed to repeat the feat against the Red Devils in the Premier League since.

The later stages of his career have seen Eto’o spend time in Italy with Sampdoria and in Turkey with both Antalyspor and, most recently, Konyaspor.

His accolades include three Champions League winners’ medals, two with Barcelona and one with Inter Milan, as well as three La Liga titles, one Serie A title and two African Cup of Nations trophies with Cameroon in 2000 and 2002.
