Man Utd defender Luke Shaw says Leicester goal was the happiest moment of his career

Luke Shaw says his goal for Manchester United in their 2-1 Premier League win over Leicester City gave him “the best feeling” in his career so far.

The 23-year-old left-back has endured a difficult last few seasons, mainly due to fitness issues, and many expected him to leave Old Trafford this summer, a period fraught with weight concerns played out across social media.

However, the former Southampton defender, despite several instances of public criticism from manager Jose Mourinho, has remained with the club and started in their league opener against the Foxes.

Shaw headed into this season without having scored a single professional goal across 134 appearances, but he changed that statistic just moments from time, and his subsequent celebration made sure everyone knew how much that meant to him.

“In my career so far, it’s probably the best feeling I’ve had. Honestly, the best feeling to date was today,” he said after the game.

Shaw at Old Trafford

Shaw joined United from his boyhood club after representing England at the 2014 World Cup for a reported £32 million.

In his first season, under former boss Louis van Gaal, he made 16 league appearances – his most at Old Trafford during a single league campaign.

Overall the full-back, who suffered a broken leg early into the 2015/16 season, has played 67 times for United creating three goals in the process.
