Alvaro Morata has set his sights on winning the Premier League Golden Boot after pledging his future to Chelsea.
The 25-year-old Spanish marksman joined the Blues from boyhood-club Real Madrid in the summer of 2017 and would go on to enjoy a mixed first season at Stamford Bridge.
So much so there was speculation that he could be on his way out, but Morata has reaffirmed his commitment to Maurizio Sarri’s team and is looking to rival the likes of Harry Kane, Mohamed Salah and Sergio Aguero.
“On the first day of pre-season I spoke to [Chelsea Director Marina Granovskaia] and with the manager and I said: ‘I want to stay at Chelsea’,” he told Mirror Sport.
“They told me: ‘We have a lot of confidence in you and we want you to stay too.’ So everything was perfect.
“All the people said I wanted to leave, that I was not happy in London but its not true. Now I have taken another house, a bigger one, near to Cobham.
“My wife is very happy. When everyone is talking about the possibility to leave I am here looking for a house. So the story is finished and I can’t wait for Sunday’s game [against Manchester City in the Community Shield which the Blues lost 2-0].
“For me I prefer to score 10 goals and take the trophy. I want to win the Golden Boot but in England in the last year the Golden Boot winner didn’t take any trophies.”
Morata at Chelsea
The native of Madrid has, to date, featured across 48 matches for Chelsea in all competitions, registering 15 goals and creating a further six for his teammates.
In the Premier League season previous, he managed 11 goals across 31 outings (0.35 per game or a goal every 187.7 minutes).
He finished as the Blues’ second-top scorer in the league behind the mercurial Eden Hazard who bagged 12, meaning both were the only players under Antonio Conte who reached double figures in the league.
