Alisher Usmanov has admitted he would “consider” making an investment at Everton after recently selling his shares in Arsenal.
The Russian billionaire has agreed to give up his 30 per cent stake in the north London club to Stan Kroenke – giving the American businessman almost total control at the Emirates – putting an end to his 11-year association with the club.
However, Usmanov, 64, is a long-time business partner and associate of Everton’s current majority shareholder, Farhad Moshiri – and his business, USM Holdings, already have sponsorship and naming rights over the Toffees’ training ground, Finch Farm.
And, in an interview with Bloomberg, Usmanov has said he is happy to offer further support to Moshiri if he needs it.
He said: “We are friends with Farhad Moshiri. If he needs the support, I am happy to help.
“Should there be a proposal or a possibility to invest in them with good potential returns, I would consider the deal.”
Usmanov has also expressed an interest in other football clubs around Europe in the past, with the likes of AC Milan, Bayern Munich and AS Roma at the top of the list of clubs he admires.
However, given his close ties to Farhad Moshiri and Everton, the Merseyside club would seemingly be in pole position if Usmanov looks to reinvest the approximate £550m he will receive from his Arsenal shares.
