Paul Scholes names his all-time Man Utd teammate XI

Paul Scholes has named his dream XI of Manchester United teammates, including Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Between 1993 and 2013, Scholes made 718 appearances for United, scoring 155 goals and winning 25 major honours.

Managed by Sir Alex Ferguson throughout his career, Scholes played alongside some of the club’s best ever players.

In an interview with MUTV, the former midfielder was asked to name a dream team of his ex-teammates.

Scholes picked Peter Schmeichel between the sticks, behind a back four of Denis Irwin, Jaap Stam, Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville.

The 43-year-old went for Roy Keane in holding midfield and chose his ‘Class of ’92’ pals David Beckham and Ryan Giggs to join Keane in a midfield three.

On Beckham, Scholes said: “He brought so much to the team. A special player. A sensational free-kick taker.”

Up front, Scholes went for Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Cristiano Ronaldo and the “sensational” Wayne Rooney.

He added on Rooney: “He’s such an angry man but when he’s playing well, that anger comes out. Incredible record. He was much more than a goalscorer.”

As for Ronaldo, Scholes noted: “A special, special talent. Confidence was never a problem and the ability was never a problem either.

“What he and [Lionel] Messi have done is just different, I don’t think you’ll see it again.”

Only two of Scholes’ XI – Rooney and Ronaldo – are still playing. Giggs and Keane have notably gone into management and coaching, while Neville and Ferdinand are prominent pundits.

United began their season with a 2-1 win over Leicester City at Old Trafford last week. They face Brighton away this weekend.
