Carlos Bacca is free to leave Milan, says Gattuso

AC Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso says he will not stand in Carlos Bacca‘s way if he wants to leave the club this month.

The 31-year-old Colombian marksman will see his present deal with the Rossoneri expire in June 2020, but his future in Milan looks bleak, having spent last season on loan at Villarreal.

Bacca, who featured at this summer’s World Cup finals in Russia, recently spoke of wanting to continue playing La Liga football, which is no problem as far as Gattuso is concerned.

“I have no problem with him,” he told a press conference (via Football Italia) following their International Champions Cup loss to Manchester United on penalties.

“I’ve never coached him and he has a contract with Milan. Thirty-one will be at Milanello, where my staff are waiting for him.

“I know he wants to play in Spain again. There are rules to respect and [there must be] a desire to stay at the club.

“I won’t force anyone to stay. When I come back to Italy, I’ll talk to him and see. If he wants to stay then great, otherwise it’s better if he leaves.”

Bacca in Milan

Bacca initially joined Milan from Sevilla in the summer of 2015 and he would go on to enjoy incredible success, making no fewer than 77 appearances for the seven-time European champions.

In those outings he’d register 34 goals, or one every 174 minutes, whilst creating a further nine for his teammates. His efforts were ultimately not enough to see Milan mount a credible title challenge, and he would return to Spain, albeit on loan, a year ago.
