Pep Guardiola: He is something special | Squawka Football

Pep Guardiola has described the Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany as someone he is “proud” to work with.

The Belgium international is celebrating 10 years at Manchester City after he signed for the club for, what now seems, a bargain price of just £7.65 million back in August 2008.

Since then the club have gone on to win three Premier League titles, three League Cups an FA Cup and two Community Shields.

Despite struggling for fitness since Pep Guardiola took charge, making just 28 Premier League appearances during the last two seasons, the Spanish coach has announced his delight at being able to work with the 32-year-old.

Guardiola also paid tribute to the player’s achievements over the last decade saying he was proud to work alongside the Belgium international.

“When one guy is with the same club for 10 years it’s because he is something special,” he told CityTV.

“So you have to be so proud like I am to work with you this period.

“Now will be our third year – thank you so much.”

Kompany’s team-mates joined the celebration of his decade at City, with Claudio Bravo saying: “Very few players have the privilege, to have a career like you have, with this club.”

Benjamin Mendy added: “You were born with this club!

“You are a great guy, a good man, a good captain with a lot of experience.”

England international’s Kyle Walker and Raheem Sterling also paid tribute to their captain with Walker saying:

“What you have taught me on and off the field is a great credit to who he is as a person.”

While Sterling added: “He’s a great captain on the pitch.”

Manchester City have got their season off to a flyer, beating Arsenal easily on the opening day of the season by two goals to nil, before thrashing Huddersfield 6-1 last Sunday. They will continue their title defence when they take on newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend.
