RB Leipzig boss Ralf Rangnick is prepared to play the waiting game over Everton forward Ademola Lookman.
The 20-year-old joined The Toffees from boyhood club Charlton Athletic in January 2017 but spent the backend of last season on loan at Leipzig where he became a crowd favourite.
Lookman’s present deal at Goodison Park expires in June 2021, but it is looking increasingly likely that his future is not in Merseyside, with Rangnick keeping a close eye on the situation.
“We’ll see. Let’s just wait another week,” he said (via Sky Sports).
“When you turn back time to the last day of the last transfer market, at 2pm we didn’t even think about a loan of Ademola Lookman.
“It seemed impossible to get him. But four hours later we got the deal done. I said then that it wasn’t a last-minute deal but a last-second deal.
“We don’t plan to repeat this, because it was a very stressful situation for us. We’ll just wait. When Everton wants to keep the player they will tell us. If not we’ll see if there’s a chance of still getting him.”
Lookman in Germany
Lookman, who made his Everton debut under former manager Ronald Koeman, would ultimately make 24 appearances for the Liverpool-based club before making his way to Germany when it became clear he wasn’t part of Sam Allardyce’s plans.
During his brief stay with the Bundesliga outfit, the England U21 international would bag five goals and three assists in 11 outings earning him praise from onlookers.
Since returning, he is yet to feature under Marco Silva having been an unused substitute at home to Southampton whilst not being in the squad in two of their opening three Premier League matches.
Next up for Everton in the Premier League is a home game against Huddersfield Town this Saturday and with big summer acquisition Richarlison suspended, Lookman stands a chance of featuring.
