Alexandre Lacazette: How I’m “different” to other Arsenal players

Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette believes his unique qualities will help the Gunners have a successful season under their new boss.

The Frenchman had an impact off the bench in the club’s 3-1 victory over West Ham last weekend but he is yet to find a regular place in Unai Emery’s starting line-up.

Lacazette will be hoping to show the qualities that attracted Arsenal’s previous manager Arsene Wenger to bring him to north London last summer.

The striker netted 17 goals during his debut season but struggled with injuries at times, while he has also had to contend with the additional competition that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has brought to the squad since his move from Borussia Dortmund last January.

However, the former Lyon frontman remains confident that he offers something different and can play an integral part in Emery’s plans.

Speaking to reporters, (via Goal), the Frenchman said: “I knew I could help the team (against West Ham).

“What I do is different to everyone else. I just want to play and help my team all the time.

“When you come off the bench you have to be ready for your team-mates, it is what I tried to do and obviously it helped us to get the win.”

It was an important result for Arsenal after they lost their opening two games against Manchester City and Chelsea, and Unai Emery will have been delighted to pick up his first win as Gunners boss. He will also be especially pleased that it was against one of their London rivals.

When asked about what the new manager has asked of him and his teammates Lacazette replied: “The manager just told me to play my game and said we will win if I play well.

“There is a lot of difference under the new manager.

“You can’t really compare the two coaches – they are their own men when it comes to football.

“Even if the aim is still to play and hurt the opposition with the ball, there are some big differences.”

It will likely take some time for the club to move after 22 years under the management of Arsene Wenger, but they now have their first three points on the board and travel to newly-promoted Cardiff City next Sunday.
