Nice boss Patrick Vieira has bemoaned his side’s lack of personality and aggression following their “catastrophic” 0-4 home loss against Dijon.
Olivier Dall’Oglio’s men ran riot at the Allianz Riviera with Naif Aguerd, Oussama Haddadi and Abdoulaye Jules Keita (brace) getting on the scoresheet in their Ligue 1 encounter.
The result leaves Les Aiglons winless after three matches, with two of those contests ending in defeat, and manager Vieira has expressed his worry.
“This is a catastrophic scenario for us. Losing 4-0 at home is hard to accept,” he told reporters (via FourFourTwo). “We have created many opportunities without scoring.
“We were shy. The message to the players at the end of the match was this: Playing well is not enough. We need more. We did not get it tonight.
“Defeat is due to lack of success and aggression. We lack character, personality and aggressiveness.”
“That’s why this scenario has become catastrophic. We do not have enough players to carry the team up,” he added.
“It is when one is in difficulty that you see the character of each one. It’s a nice challenge to take up.
“This lack of rigour and aggressiveness summarises the first matches. We are in difficulty, but I believe in this group, in the players.
“We will work to react from the next match.”
Vieira’s start in Ligue 1
A world-class midfielder throughout an illustrious 20-year playing career, Vieira, through his association with Manchester City, began his senior managerial career with MLS outfit New York City FC and would oversee no fewer than 91 matches there, winning 43.96% (40) before joining Nice in the summer.
So far he’s been in charge of three matches with Nice, but is yet to win – under him, they’ve registered just one goal and conceded six in the process.
