Everton have had a busy final day of the English transfer window, completing the triple signing of Bernard, Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes.
Bernard was the first to be announced on a free transfer after his contract with Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk ran out at the end of the past season.
The Brazilian, who played 157 times for Shakhtar in his five years at the club, joins Everton on a four-year deal and will wear the number 20 shirt
Next to follow was Mina from Barcelona, as the Colombian centre-back joined the Toffees for a fee of £27m – though the La Liga champions have revealed they do have a buy-back clause in his contract.
Mina had long been linked with a move away from Barcelona this summer with the club’s purchases of non-EU players in Malcom, Arthur and Arturo Vidal filling their quote per La Liga’s rules.
The Colombian centre-back had reportedly been subject to interest from Manchester United over a permanent move but Everton have swooped in for Mina on the final day of the English transfer window, with the player having his medical in Barcelona in order to push the move through.
And Mina was followed to Everton by Barcelona teammate Andre Gomes, with the Catalan club confirming his move on an initial season-long loan with a fee of £2m.
What Benard said upon signing
Linked to the likes of Chelsea throughout the summer, Brazilian Bernard admitted a conversation with Marco Silva persuaded him to move to Everton.
“I chose Everton because of all the things I had heard about Marco Silva and after speaking to him I was happy with what he said to me,” he told evertontv.
“The manager made me feel confident about playing here. He is a very good coach and he has achieved really good things at other clubs.
“Everton is a club with a great structure and a lot of tradition, historically the fourth most successful club in England. When I found out about this opportunity and what the manager wanted out of me I was happy.
“That is why I made my choice, because of the confidence both the manager and the Club showed in me.
“I did not need any convincing to come here. I believe I will be able to show my best as a player here.”
