Rio Ferdinand urges Man Utd to keep Paul Pogba amid Barcelona interest

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has passionately urged his former side to keep midfielder Paul Pogba amid Barcelona interest.

Pogba enjoyed a highly successful World Cup campaign with France as they left Russia as champions after defeating fellow Europeans Croatia 4-2 in the final, with the 25-year-old getting on the scoresheet.

Tensions have reportedly been high between Pogba and the club – specifically boss Jose Mourinho – with his performances lacking the influence that brought him back from Juventus in the first place.

However, with Mourinho opting for a more ‘conservative’ style of play – limiting the attacking opportunities and talents of Pogba – La Liga winners Barcelona have reportedly registered an interest in bringing the World Cup winner to Spain.

Former United centre-back Ferdinand has tweeted his disgust at the potential departure of the talented midfielder, stressing that United need to keep him at the club and add Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld in a bid to strengthen the squad heading into the new season.

He tweeted: “Don’t you dare allow this ED… #MUFC is Pogba’s home!! Silence these rumours ASAP & get @AlderweireldTob through the door.”

United had been hoping to bring in a one or two new signings before the transfer window closes at 5pm, but Mourinho has expressed pessimism over their chances of doing so. Their first Premier League fixture is against former champions Leicester City on Friday night.
