Under the radar: Ten wingers more Premier League clubs should be looking at this summer

With teams now switching back to three-man forward lines, wingers have never been more popular.

The summer transfer window has already seen the likes of Malcom join Barcelona for a large sum while Roma eye up Leon Bailey to improve their squad.

But, watching on so far have been the Premier League sides with very little being done in terms of wingers signing.

And while some of the bigger-named wingers may look away from England for their moves (like Malcom did) there have been plenty whose performances might have gone slightly unnoticed.

Here are 10 wingers Premier League sides should be looking at before the transfer window closes.

Pione Sisto

Age: 23

Club: Celta Vigo

Standout stat: Only Iago Aspas and Maxi Gomez contributed to more La Liga goals for Celta Vigo than Pione Sisto (five goals, nine assists).

Perfect for: Fulham

Despite finishing 13th in La Liga last season, Celta Vigo were one of the league’s top scoring sides with 59 goals.

Though that may have been partially down to the goalscoring of Aspas and Gomez, Sisto’s assists put him above the club’s other wingers for goal involvement.

The wideman was present at the World Cup for Denmark this summer but his abilities are still somewhat unknown due to the nation’s timid showing in Russia.

Allan Saint-Maximin

Age: 21

Club: Nice

Standout stat: Only Neymar (142) and Florian Thauvin (118) completed more take-ons in Ligue last season than Saint-Maximin (108).

Perfect for: Crystal Palace

Nice were an exciting team to watch last season with Mario Balotelli leading the line, but some plaudits may have been taken away from Allan Saint-Maximin.

The 21-year-old scored three goals and recorded seven assists after joining the club just last summer, helping them to finish eighth in Ligue 1.

Creating 46 chances in total, Saint-Maximin averaged 1.8 chances created per 90 minutes during his season with Nice.

Andrija Zivkovic

Age: 22

Club: Benfica

Standout stat: Andrija Zivkovic averaged 2.2 chances created per 90 minutes in Liga NOS last season.

Perfect for: Leicester

Perhaps still finding his way in the Portguese league with Benfica, Andrija Zivkovic has shown his creative abilities in a more central position than some may prefer to see him.

Despite that, the Serbian recorded four assists and scored three goals in his 21 league appearances last season – enough to earn him a call-up for the Serbian side at the World Cup.

The 22-year-old also completed an impressive 35 of his 53 attempted take-ons last season, with a success rate of 66%.

Quincy Promes

Age: 26

Club: Spartak Moscow

Standout stat: Quincy Promes scored more goals (15) than any other Spartak Moscow player last season.

Perfect for: Southampton

Despite Luiz Adriano leading the line for Spartak, Quincy Promes was the real danger man for the Russian club last season as they finished second in the league.

His 15 league goals were accompanied by eight league assists as well as two goals and two assists in the Champions League – all of which came in a 5-1 win over Sevilla in the group stages.

Promes has been linked with a move to the Premier League before, but now could be the time for him.

Joaquin Correa

Age: 23

Club: Sevilla

Standout stat: Joaquin Correa averaged 3 completed take-ons per 90 minutes in La Liga last season.

Perfect for: Arsenal

An exciting young winger in Sevilla’s squad, Joaquin Correa may not have got the game time he would have liked in La Liga starting just 15 games.

But when he was on the pitch, the Argentine caused trouble creating on average 1.7 chances per 90 minutes and recording one assist.

He did, however, shine in the Copa del Rey scoring five goals in six games en route to the final.

David Neres

Age: 21

Club: Ajax

Standout stat: David Neres (14) scored more goals than any other Ajax player last season.

Perfect for: Tottenham

Justin Kluivert on the left, David Neres on the right: last season Ajax had two of the most exciting young wide players in Europe.

Kluivert has already completed a move to Roma, and given that Neres was just as integral a part of the Amsterdam squad last season, the Brazilian may soon follow.

Adding to his 14 goals, the Brazilian recorded 11 assists and completed 114 take ons – the second-highest number in the Eredivisie.

Rony Lopes

Age: 22

Club: Monaco

Standout stat: Only Radamel Falcao (18) scored more goals for Monaco in Ligue last season than Rony Lopes (15).

Perfect for: Chelsea

There’s something about Monaco and good young wingers, with the Principality side not long having given the world Kylian Mbappe.

Despite Falcao leading the line, Monaco would have still wanted goals to come from other positions on the pitch and Rony Lopes fit the bill perfectly scoring 15 goals and recording five assists in 38 games.

This may be a tough one to bag, with Monaco unlikely to offload another winger with Lemar on the way to Atletico.

Mikel Oyarzabal

Age: 21

Club: Real Sociedad

Standout stat: Only Willian Jose (15) scored more La Liga goals than Oyarzabal (12) for Real Sociedad last season.

Perfect for: Everton

Like Sisto at Celta Vigo, Oyarzabal was part of a free-scoring attack let down by a shoddy defence.

The exciting young winger contributed to 17 goals in La Liga last season, adding five assists to the 12 he scored.

Oyarzabal also completed 40 of his 82 attempted take-ons (48.8%) and created 43 chances.

Luiz Araujo

Age: 22

Club: Lille

Standout stat: Luiz Araujo completed more take-ons (75) than any other Lille player last season.

Perfect for: Bournemouth

While the eyes of many in Ligue 1 were on Malcom at Bordeaux, Luiz Araujo was a reliable performer for Lille despite their poor finish.

Lille narrowly avoided relegation last season, finishing 17th in the league but, alongside Nicolas Pepe, Araujo gave opposition defences something to think about when they went up against the club.

Only Pepe (who played a large part of the season as a forward) contributed to more goals for Lille than Araujo, who assisted three and scored five.

Pablo Sarabia

Age: 26

Club: Sevilla

Standout stat: Pablo Sarabia created 46 chances for Sevilla last season.

Perfect for: Newcastle

The Spanish side’s utility man, Pablo Sarabia played all across the pitch for Sevilla last season including two appearances at left back.

But he enjoyed most success as a right winger, scoring six goals and recording four assists from that position – to add to another assist from a more central position.

At 26, he would bring a bit more experience to a Premier League side including 10 Champions League appearances last season.
