PSG in talks with Jerome Boateng’s agent, Bayern Munich confirm

Bayern Munich have confirmed that Paris Saint-Germain have opened discussions with centre-back Jerome Boateng, with the club determined to bring him to the French capital.

Boateng, 29, has enjoyed seven highly successful seasons at the Allianz Arena since signing in the summer of 2011 from Manchester City, winning the Bundesliga title in every season apart from his maiden campaign.

However, the West Berlin native may now be heading for the exit door as Bayern director Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed a potential transfer with PSG is on the cards.

Boateng endured a calamitous experience in Russia as Germany failed to defend their World Cup title, crashing out of the group stages following defeats to Mexico and South Korea.

Despite this, new PSG manager Thomas Tuchel is keen to bring the experienced defender to the Parc des Princes, and Rummenigge is willing to part ways with Boateng providing a substantial offer is made.

“At the moment there is no direct contact between the clubs,’ Rummenigge said (via the Daily Mail).

“But there is contact between his agents and PSG. We have to wait, if we could find a basis for a transfer.

“Now we have to wait and see whether at the end of the day we find a basis on which we can agree on a transfer. We have to find a transfer fee that would be acceptable for both.

“In principle, we have enough players at this position, even if Jerome leaves.”

Injuries have derailed Boateng’s career in recent seasons with the defender failing to muster over 20 appearances for the club since the 2014/15 campaign, while he only managed 19 starts last term.

The Bavarians already boast an impressive armoury at the back including Mats Hummels, Niklas Sule and the versatile Javi Martinez, so new head coach Niko Kovac may be tempted to cash in on Boateng and invest the funds elsewhere.

However, the former Croatia manager recently revealed his intentions to keep the defender at the club, though a lucrative offer from the Parisians may sway his decision.

“I know Jerome quite well and I’m confident that he will stay with Bayern,” he said.

“I know that Thomas (Tuchel) is still looking for one or two good players, maybe he will look at us, but it will not be easy to get our players.”

Bayern Munich recently announced the signing of teenage sensation Alphonso Davies from Vancouver Whitecaps for an MLS record $22m, while the club have also recruited German international Leon Goretzka on a free transfer from Schalke.

PSG take on Arsenal in the International Champions Cup on Saturday at the New Singapore National Stadium.
