Watford reaffirm official Premier League complaint against former boss Marco Silva

Watford are standing by their Premier League complaint against Everton regarding what they perceived to be an illegal approach for ex-manager Marco Silva.

The 41-year-old Portuguese tactician joined the Vicarage Road club last summer but left earlier this year after being heavily linked with the Everton job following Ronald Koeman’s sacking.

Everton ultimately gave the job to Sam Allardyce, before replacing him with Silva this summer, but the relationship between the clubs remains low.

Recently they conducted business with young Brazilian winger Richarlison, who has now joined his former boss at Goodison Park for a reported £40m. Consequently reports have suggested that a fraction of that fee represents compensation for the Silva affair, but that has been disputed by the powers that be at Watford, who disclosed mediation with the Toffees ended with no conclusion being reached.

For them it’s not a matter of finance, but taking a stand. “In pursuing its disciplinary claim, the club has known from the outset it forfeited any right to compensation as a consequence of not following a proposed arbitration process,” a statement on the club’s official website read.

“We believe this situation is not about a compensation figure but the principle of making a stand when the actions of one Premier League club completely undermine and cause intrinsic damage to a fellow member club.”

The former Hull City, Olympiacos and Sporting CP manager would ultimately preside over 26 matches in all competitions as Watford boss.

Under him they’d register eight wins, giving him a 31% success rate, whilst losing on no fewer than 13 occasions. Watford would register 38 goals, or one every 62 minutes, though they conceded 47 goals (1.81 per game).
