Alan Shearer: It was the pass of the season so far | Squawka Football

Ederson’s record-breaking assist for Sergio Aguero is the best pass of the season so far, according to former Blackburn Rovers forward Alan Shearer.

The Brazilian, 25, hit a long ball to the Argentinian from a goal-kick, who managed to control the pass with great finesse before embarrassing Huddersfield Town player Philip Billing and then expertly lobbing Ben Hamer from just outside the penalty area.

That was the first assist from a Man City goalkeeper in the Premier League, and he is the first of any ‘keeper to do it this season.

The last time a goalkeeper notched an assist was last season, when Huddersfield’s Jonas Lossl set up Laurent Depoitre during their historic 2-1 win over Manchester United last October.

But Ederson, who cost City £35m, has come in for wide acclaim for both his shot-stopping but most explicitly his distribution. He appears to be able to kick down the length of the pitch with ease.

Shearer wrote in his team of the week column on the Premier League’s official website: “He didn’t make any saves but what an assist! That was the pass of the season so far for Aguero’s opening goal.”

Record Breaker

Ederson has rewritten the history books with his kicking before. In May, he broke the Guinness World Record for the longest football drop-kick.

He was also the world’s most expensive goalkeeper for a season before Alisson and then Kepa Arrizabalaga made the switch to the Premier League. Those two players moved for £65m and £71.6m respectively.

Man City next take on Wolves in their next Premier League game away on Saturday, after having secured the maximum six points available from their two previous fixtures.
