DONE DEAL: Martin Odegaard has left Real Madrid | Squawka Football

Martin Odegaard has completed a loan move to Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem.

The Norwegian midfielder joined Real Madrid three years ago when he was just 16-years-old, having already made his senior debut for Norway when he was 15.

Odegaard has found first-team opportunities at the Bernabeu limited so far, having made just two appearances for the senior side.

However, he is still only 19-years-old and has made 62 appearances for the club’s B team as well as enjoying an 18-month loan spell at another Dutch side, Heerenveen.

And, after completing his move to Vitesse, Odegaard has spoken of his excitement about joining a club that allows young players to flourish.

He said (as reported by BBC Sport): “Vitesse has shown that it gives young players a chance to dare,” he said.

“I am happy with the opportunity that Vitesse offers me.”

Vitesse Arnhem – the guiding hand

A loan move to Vitesse may be a wise one for Odegaard and could help develop his talents, ready for his return to Madrid.

In the past, Chelsea have loaned out multiple players to the Dutch side, with the likes of Mason Mount, Christian Atsu and Bertrand Traore all coming back stronger for their time in the Eredivisie.

In Chelsea’s case, many of those players don’t make it to the first-team due to their consistent, strong performance in the transfer market and their policy of loaning out whole squads of players at any given time, but they do move on to forge strong careers elsewhere – Christian Atsu is currently at Newcastle, while Traore is at Lyon in France.

However, with Real Madrid bringing through the likes of Dani Carvajal, Nacho and Lucas Vazquez through their youth ranks in recent years, Odegaard’s path may just open up, given he has a successful spell in Holland.
