Ivan Rakitic rejects PSG for Barcelona stay

Ivan Rakitic confirmed that he will will remain at Barcelona this season following interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Rakatic had an impressive World Cup campaign with Croatia, forming a formidable partnership with Golden Ball winner Luka Modric in midfield.

His performance in Russia along with his consistent form with Barcelona sparked interest from other clubs over the summer window with PSG at the front of the queue offering €80m in cash.

Unfortunately for the Parisians the Croatian international will not be following Neymar to the French capital. The 30-year-old was adamant that “No one can offer me what I have here”.

“PSG made me an offer to study and consider, but defending the Barcelona badge is the greatest thing that exists. That’s why I’m staying,” he said (via Football Espana) after Barcelona defeated Real Valladolid 1-0 on Saturday.

“My family were also a factor in my decision because we’re very happy in Barcelona. No-one can offer me what I have here. I’m at the best club in the world.”

The Croatian midfielder started his career with Basel in 2005, then moving to Schalke and Sevilla before settling at Barcelona in 2014. Since arriving in Catalonia, Rakatic has racked up three La Liga titles, four Copa Del Reys and a Champions League title.

With Iniesta’s departure, Rakatic is undoubtedly Barcelona’s most important player in the middle of the park. With such a responsibility weighing on his shoulders, the Croatian can cement his legacy as one of Barcelona’s best midfielders in the coming years. With such a great opportunity ahead of him, why would he want to go anywhere else?

Rakitic and Barcelona are back in La Liga action next Saturday against Huesca.
