Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has praised Andreas Pereria after his performance in the opening game of the 2018-19 Premier League season.
United defeated Leicester City 2-1 on Friday evening at Old Trafford and Mourinho was particularly impressed by the performance of Andreas Pereira who spent last season on loan with Valencia.
Pereira, 22, played as a right winger for Valencia last season, but he was called on by the Portuguese tactician to play in a central midfield role in the absence of regular starters Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera.
Mourinho, who has cut a frustrated and grumpy figure during a transfer window in which United failed to sign any of his centre-back targets, hailed Pereira’s “phenomenal” performance after United won their first game of the season.

Mourinho told reporters: “A right-winger at Valencia, he spent the season at on the bench. From the bench at Valencia as a right-winger he comes to Old Trafford as the No.6 and played a phenomenal match.”
Pereira linked up well with Pogba and compatriot Fred in United’s midfield trident against Leicester City, and the Brazilian performed well defensively with three interceptions as well as winning five out of 11 duels.
Pereira played for Valencia 29 times last season, scoring once and creating another three for his teammates. He impressed so much at Los Che Els Taronges that Marcelino wanted to sign the Brazilian on a permanent deal.
Manchester United head to Falmer Stadium to take on Brighton & Hove Albion for their next game in the Premier League on Sunday 19 August.
