Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admits he would consider Germany job

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted he would be open to taking charge of Germany one day, though insists he is fully committed to the Reds for now.

As a result, the future of Joachim Low came into doubt, but the German Football Association have kept their current manager for the time being.

But Klopp, whose current Liverpool contract ends in 2022, has admitted he would not be averse to managing Germany one day.

“If I am asked one day and I am available then I would think about it,” he told Welt am Sonntag (via Goal).

“But am I thinking about it right now, in my current situation when I am tied to Liverpool for the next four years and because Germany have just played a bad World Cup? No. I’m not available.”

During the summer, Klopp had his spending questioned due to previous remarks on the price of Paul Pogba upon his sale from Juventus to Manchester United. But the Liverpool boss insists he does not like spending a lot of money.

“I still do not like it [spending big],” he added.

“But I cannot say now ‘we will not go there’ because my job is to make Liverpool as strong as possible.

“Regarding our net spend in the past transfer windows, we are still far behind any of our rivals.

“The quality of the players is now there, but the quality of a team depends on whether the players can reach their potential.”

Klopp’s managerial career

Starting his managerial career with Mainz in 2001, Klopp spent eight years with the Bundesliga side taking charge of 268 games which brought 110 wins, 72 draws and 86 defeats.

This was enough to draw the attention of Borussia Dortmund, who moved in for the German in the summer of 2008. In his seven years at the club, Klopp transformed Dortmund into a competitive force in the Bundesliga winning back-to-back league titles in 2011 and 2012 as well as a DFB-Pokal in 2012 and two German Super Cups in 2013/14 and 2014/15 – his only managerial honours to date.

After leaving Dortmund in 2015, Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers in charge at Liverpool and has enjoyed relative success pushing Liverpool back into a top four side.

In his 156 games so far, including a win over West Ham United on the opening day of the new season, Klopp has won 82 games, drawing 44 and suffering 30 defeats.
