Luka Modric is irreplaceable to Real Madrid – Jarni

The former Croatia international Robert Jarni has described compatriot Luka Modric as irreplaceable for Real Madrid.

Modric, who turns 33 next month, has been heavily associated with a move to Inter Milan since returning from this summer’s World Cup finals.

However, a transfer would be unthinkable according to ex-Real winger Jarni, who believes the 13-time European champions will find it hard to replace him.

“We know what the market is like,” he told Cadena SER.

“I did not believe in the voices [that said he would leave].

“I know he likes Madrid a lot and the club does not have a player who can replace him.”

The rise of Modric

A graduate of Dinamo Zagreb’s esteemed academy, the Zadar-born midfielder played over 120 matches for his boyhood club before relocating to Tottenham Hotspur in 2008.

During his time in England, Modric managed 17 goals and 27 assists across 159 matches in all competitions.

A standout at Euro 2012, at which Croatia did not make it past the group stages, saw Real Madrid part with £30m for his services and he has to date made 257 appearances (13 goals and 40 assists) in which he’s played a pivotal role in the side’s last four European Cup triumphs.

Such is his status and importance to Los Blancos, the Croat received the No.10 jersey before the 2017/18 season. At international level he’s won no fewer than 113 caps whilst registering 14 goals and 18 assists in the process.
