Nacho wants to finish career with Real Madrid

Real Madrid defender Nacho says he wants to finish his career with Real Madrid and win a World Cup with Spain.

Nacho has been a one-club man so far in his career. He came through Real’s youth system at the age of 11, making his senior debut in 2011. He has been a sporadic presence in Madrid’s side for most of his career, but has been used more frequently in recent seasons under former manager Zinedine Zidane.

The defender still has at least five years left to play at the highest level, but it seems the 28-year-old is already pondering the finish line in an interview with GQ (via Marca).

“My plan is to finish my career at home,” he said in an interview with GQ

“In the career of any athlete there are stages where you do not do everything you would like, fortunately I’ve had two spectacular years on a personal and professional level and there is no better place for me than Real Madrid.

“The demand is the highest, but my idea is to keep the pace and finish my career at home.”

Having won everything at club level, Nacho admits that there is still some unfinished business with the national team.

“I would like to get rid of the thorn of the last World Cup and win an important tournament with Spain.”

The Spain international has enjoyed a scintillating career with Los Blancos loading his personal trophy cabinet with one La Liga, a Copa del Rey and four Champions League medals. It’s little wonder then, that the Spain international wants to play out his career in the Spanish capital.

Nacho lit up the World Cup in Spain’s first game against Portugal in the group stages with a superb strike from 30 yards out, contributing to an exhilarating 3-3 draw.

The 28-year-old will be 32 when the quadrennial tournament come back around in 2022 in Qatar, so will have to maintain the same level of consistency he’s shown over they years in Madrid.

Real Madrid play Girona on Sunday at 9.15pm
