“Palace maybe stronger than Schalke” – Max Meyer

Crystal Palace new boy Max Meyer has suggested his new team could be “stronger” than former club Schalke 04.

The 22-year-old German midfielder swapped Gelsenkirchen for south London this summer when he relocated to Palace on a free transfer subsequently ending a nine-year association with The Royal Blues.

Meyer made his Premier League debut in a 0-2 loss to Liverpool at Selhurst Park but is nonetheless excited about what the season holds as the native of Oberhausen feels he’s made a step up in terms of competition for places.

“We can play a very good season,” he told the German publication Kicker.

“We have a lot of quality in our squad, a strong team – compared to Schalke just as strong, maybe even stronger.”

The lowdown on Max

Since breaking through in the 2012/13 season, the versatile German midfielder would go on to make no fewer than 192 appearances for Die Königsblauen, scoring 22 goals and creating a further 24 in the process.

His final campaign saw him feature across 28 matches in all competitions with all but four coming in the Bundesliga.

Meyer, near ever-present under Schalke boss Domenico Tedesco, would reinvent himself into a deep-lying midfielder and was linked with a string of clubs but in the end it was Palace that won his signature.
