Wilfried Zaha could play for Real Madrid, believes Graeme Souness

Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness says he is a “enormous fan” of Wilfried Zaha and claims the forward is ready to return to a big club.

Zaha used to play for a big club, but his time at Manchester United was underwhelming with the Ivorian only managing to break into the first team on four occasions.

Since moving to south London in 2014, however, Zaha has developed into an excellent player. Last season the Ivorian finished Palace’s Premier League campaign with nine goals and three assists.

Zaha has also impressed with his unpredictable movement and his knack for manoeuvring around players with explosive speed and agility.

Souness has been particularly impressed with the Eagles front man, and says he’s now good enough to play for the likes of Real Madrid.

“I could see him playing for Real Madrid that’s how good he is,” Souness said on Sky Sports before Palace’s game against Watford at Vicarage Road. “I think there’s only a handful of players – even outside our own league – that have got his kind of ability.

“The change of direction, the balance he’s got is quite unique and that’s why I think he gets fouled and he should get more penalties than he does. “

Zaha has been accused of going to ground too easily in the past which resulted in Watford’s mascot ‘Harry the Hornet’ to mock the him by diving onto the pitch at Vicarage Road when the two sides met in December 2016. However, Souness doesn’t think he’s a cheat

“I don’t think he is a diver,” Souness added. “I think he is quite a unique talent. He’s ready for a big big club; the biggest clubs.

“With much respect to Palace if he stays here he will end his career with no trophies and no medals and the say ‘what if’.

“I think he is ready. There’s not too many of those player around; he is unique in football and I’m an enormous fan of his. He has got that stuff that gets you on the edge of your seat. He’s a unique player.”
