Willian drops hint about his future: “Mourinho is the best manager I’ve ever worked with”

Chelsea playmaker Willian has admitted that former boss Jose Mourinho “is the best manager” he has ever worked with amid interest from Manchester United. 

Willian’s form across the past few seasons for the Stamford Bridge club has attracted interested from some of Europe’s biggest clubs including both Barcelona and Manchester United.

To date, Willian has made 237 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions, scoring 44 goals and providing 39 assists since his £30 million transfer from Anzhi Makhachkala back in 2013. 

With United’s reported interest in bringing the Brazilian international to Old Trafford, Willian has spoken to reporters about the influence Mourinho has had on his career, admitting the former Chelsea boss is the best manager he has ever worked with.

“Mourinho is the best manager I’ve ever worked with. We have a good relationship, we are friends,” Willian said.

“Sometimes we talk, we text, we send messages to each other via WhatsApp. He is a great manager, I really enjoyed working with him. I hope I can work with him again someday.”

Willian also touched on the potential interest from Mourinho in bringing the 30-year-old to Old Trafford this summer. The Chelsea attacker insisted that although he is flattered by the interest, he is currently very happy living in London and playing for Chelsea.

“I don’t know if there was any official bid [from Manchester United], but some things have happened,” he said.

“Also, everything comes out on the internet, too. But Mourinho talks to my agent all the time, he says ‘bring him, bring him’.

“No, he has never called me, but he always sends me text messages.

“But I am very happy at Chelsea, I want to stay in the club. I also like living in London, it is an amazing city, and my family is well adapted. So yeah, I intend to stay at Chelsea.”

With the English summer transfer window now over, Willian will have to wait until January to pursue any potential move to Manchester United.

Chelsea kick off their Premier League season away to Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
